Launched in 2018, Bumble was a successful bi-annual nature and wildlife journal that ran for four issues.

Based on the idea that nature writing should be for all, we were tasked with creating a simple, easy-to-read publication that allowed readers of all backgrounds and abilities to enjoy. In addition to this we wanted a magazine that readers would keep, and not through away after the first read.

Its photography and illustration-led approach coupled with straightforward writing garnered widespread praise from readers and ecologists alike, with Sir David Attenborough and Chris Packham both voicing their support.

Alongside the branding and publication design, we also provided photographic work, most notably the second issue's cover artwork, which features a rescued, half-blind tawny owl named Bowie. On the same shoot we met a Western Siberian eagle owl, coincidentally called Bumble, although being non-native he didn't join Bowie the tawny in the magazine.

For each issue’s Tree Identification article we were inspired by the old plant and tree ID books we found second hand in charity shops. Our first illustration, an alder tree leaf, was actually sketched on an old piece of printer paper. After being approved, we started work on the other illustrations for alder, oak, yew and ash.

You can purchase copies of Issue Three and Four, or download a PDF of Issues One and Two on their website.
